Product Summary:

Safe-Guard® (fenbendazole) Paste 10%

Each gram of Safe-Guard Paste 10% contains 100mg of fenbendazole and is flavored with artificial apple-cinnamon liquid. The antiparasitic action of Safe-Guard Paste 10% is believed to be due to the inhibition of energy metabolism in the parasite. It is indicated for the control of large strongyles (Strongylus edentatus, S. equinus, S. vulgaris), encysted early third stage (hypobiotic), late third stage and fourth stage cyathostome larvae, small strongyles, pinworms (Oxyuris equi), ascarids (Parascaris equorum), and arteritis caused by fourth stage larvae of Stongylus vulgaris in horses. It is also approved for use concomitantly with an approved form of trichlorfon for the treatment of stomach bots (Gasterophilus spp.) in horses.

Item Specifications:

Size:
25g syringe

Dosage:
Administer orally at a rate of 2.3mg/lb (5mg/kg) for the control of large strongyles, small strongyles, and pinworms. One syringe will deworm a 1,100 lb. horse. For foals and weanlings (less than 18 months of age) where ascarids are a common problem, the recommended dose is 4.6mg/lb. (10mg/kg); one syringe will deworm a 550 lb. horse.
For control of encysted early 3rd stage (hypobiotic), late 3rd stage and 4th stage cyathostome larvae and 4th stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris, the recommended dose is 4.6mg/lb. (10mg/kg) daily for 5 consecutive days; administer one syringe for each 550 lb. of body weight per day. Safe-Guard Paste 10% has been evaluated for safety in pregnant mares during all stages of gestation with doses as high as 11.4mg/lb. (25mg/kg) and in stallions with doses as high as 11.4mg/lb. (25mg/kg). No adverse effects on reproductively were detected. Consult your veterinarian for assistance in the diagnosis, treatment and control of parasitism.

Precautions:
Side effects associated with Safe-Guard Paste 10% could not be established in well-controlled safety studies in horses with single doses as high as 454mg/lb. (1,000mg/kg) and 15 consecutive daily doses of 22.7mg/lb. (50mg/kg). Particularly with higher doses, the lethal action of fenbendazole may cause the release of antigens by the dying parasites. This phenomenon may result in either a local or systemic hypersensitive reaction. As with any drug, these reactions should be treated symptomatically. The recommended dose for control of 4th stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris, 4.6mg/lb. (10mg/kg) daily for 5 consecutive days, has not been evaluated for safety in stallions or pregnant mares.

Cautions:
Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children. When using Safe-Guard Paste 10%, concomitantly with trichlorfon, refer to the manufacturer's label for use and cautions for trichlorfon. Do not use in horses intended for food.

Storage:
Store in original container at or below 77ºF.

Great!, 11/2/2012

Shannon from Fruitvale, BC

I'm very glad this site has this dewormer. I can not find it at any local tack shops, and even if I did I dont think the price would be as cheap. And I have a rescue, and I need to start off mild, and safe gaurd is the safest way to go!

Great Wormer, 12/19/2007

barrelchick from MI

This wormer works really well. I use it in my wormer rotations all the time. It is the best I think. I would really recommend this wormer to anyone that I knew. My horse Rebel takes it really well too so I dont think the taste is that bad that they wouldnt take it.
