Surprisingly Effective, 5/27/2013

ATL_Hunter from Atlanta, GA

Bought this because I was looking for something light and cool that would keep my black horse cool in the hot Georgia sun. This combo does the trick! He comes in dry and happy! I know some have complained that it shifts, but I have the leg strapped criss-crossed in the back and have not experienced that issue.

Great sheet, but slips!, 6/14/2012

Cait from Bay Area, CA

I originally bought this sheet, and my mare was found with it torn badly in the soft mesh part, even though she was in a large, clutter free pasture. Luckily, I had had it 3 days, so horse.com sent out a replacement. During that time, I moved my mare to a boarding stable, into a small paddock with bark and wood fencing. In the week she's had it, the sheet has held up really well, and the neck cover keeps the horseflies off. The only thing is, it's VERY long, so sags around her tail. This poses a problem with her, because it makes difficult for her to lift her tail to poop. Also, the "soft mesh" is really just that light fabric that you find on sports jerseys- not durable at all! One last problem is that it slips. It only has one belly strap, so if I don't get out there for 2 days, the entire sheet is way off center. Still, for the money, it's a good value; I just wish they made the mesh differently (and MESHY, not soft fabric-like). It is a good sheet for the protection she needs, and we'll be sewing the back up, out of her tail's way (it's not just the tail flap- it's the entire back of the sheet). On the fence if I would buy it again.

Good sheet, keeps them black!, 6/14/2012

LORI HARRINGTON from Iowa

I have one of these on our narrow thourghbred and one on my massive Friesian cross. Fits both of them fine except I forgot these were by Weatherbeater and they are generous so bought a size too big for the Friesian. They have both had them on for about a month. No rips or tears. Keeps their coats black! The big guy is a very black horse that fades to an ugly brown in the sun as he is out 24/7. He is beautifully black with this sheet on. The thourghbred is a black bay, and you know how they fade! He is still looking very black also. The buckles on mine are in the solid fabric. Maybe changed the design from ealier? Love these, and they do NOT get hot and sweaty in 90 degree heat.

Nice fly sheet, 5/7/2012

Shelby from sc

I LOVE this fly sheet! It has really prevented my horse's coat from fading and helped with the flies. It is nice and covers him well. The only thing I dont like is my horse is very good at getting his blankets/sheets off. He has taken off like 4 times (within 3 wks) and ripped it pretty good today. He ripped it on the back left side next to his leg,but it will still work. This is a great sheet, but be careful if your horse takes sheets off bc they will rip

Buy it! , 4/20/2012

Amanda from Scotts Valley, CA

This sheet is very durable and has prevented my gelding from sun bleaching. It has done its job for over 3 summer seasons and friends have bought it after seeing how well it worked and its quality. One of the best features is that it cleans up so well! After washing it the sheet looks new and crisp again. Other things: it does not rub the main off at the withers and the neck guard stays put. I will continue to buy this sheet as my gelding grows.

Ripped, 4/7/2012

Emma from Indianapolis, IN

My horse is very good at ripping things but not usually the first or second day I have it. He just ripped this sheet up like crazy. I have someone sow it back together the first time after he ripped the whole side off and it ripped again the first time he rolled and it ripped even worse. It did help him not bleach though. I just think they could make it more dourable!!

Fantastic Sheet! , 2/15/2012

Brielle from SanDiego, CA

I have had this sheet for 3 seasons. It is fantastic! I did not have a sweating issue as other described, and it gets upwards of 100 degrees here and my mare does sweat easily... However humidity is pretty low here- that might play a role? It stays on perfectly, and the neck portion stays up. I like the material as it is thin, breathable, and super easy to wash. I also repaired it easily many times, as my horse is super hard on her blankets. The tail flap doesn't bother my mare, and it stays pretty clean. The material is all high quality. The legs straps did break, but I think that always happens after so many years of use. This will be it's last season, but for only $40- that's $13 a summer! I am definitely buying a new one.

Great idea for a product, 10/27/2011

saddlebredlady from Riverton,WY

My horses wear this 24/7. I check for rubs daily, but leave it on, so I like how easy this is to wash. Which is good,as the horses do sweat lightly under it. I needed to cut off the tail cover,as it caused high tailed Am.Saddlebreds and Arabians to rub off the outside of their tailhair. Horses love wearing it and it stays straight when they roll. Does pull back, so I adjust it forward everyday. Would like to see rain flap removeable, for horses like mine. Runs big on my horses, ordered size smaller.

Overall... I like it., 10/3/2011

CP from KY

I really do. For really hot, humid days it is too much. I just take it off and put it back on for the nighttime. My biggest issue is the belly strap. It's located too far back and causes the blanket to shift. Material is good and washes well too. No rips or tears on a 24/7 wearing horse this summer.

Kool fly sheet, 6/6/2011

Ray Anderson from Mineral Va

It a nice looking sheet but for the heat and humity here in Va It is way to thick, It has a very, hot, dark blue nylon lining under the top of the neck cover and sheet that my horses sweat like crazy in even the cooler temps of 80 degrees. I cannot even use it if it get hotter than 80 degrees. I afraid my horse is going to over heat. And for some reason my mare pee's all over the back flap and it stays wet. I would not recomend this sheet if it gets warmer than 80 degrees

Great Sheet, If Your Horse Isn't Crazy, 5/27/2011

KAITLYN MARTIN from MI

Nice looking sheet for sure, but the mesh rips very easily. My gelding tore his after 2 days (he's only outside for 8 hours a day). He's at the bottom of the herd, so I imagine it's the other horses.

Overall Great Sheet- lasted three seasons so far!, 5/4/2011

Brie from California

This sheet has been wonderful! I own a 15.2 qh/appy mare, who is fairly average build. It fits her perfectly. The leg straps did break early on, but this wasn't too big of a problem as I just attached hay ties. The mesh does rip, and it needed minor repairs after each season. This last year my mare was next to a horse who frequently fought with her, and he ripped the sheet up. However I'll fix it for the season (the fourth one I'll be using it for!), and buy it again next season. It runs true to size, so measure your horse then order it right. The next attachment goes pretty far up the next, and stays in place. My horse was never sweaty while wearing the sheet, and it fit her comfortably without rubbing anywhere (including the main). She's very sensitive to flies, and never had any fly bites. I love the sheet, and highly recommend buying it ONLY if you have a sewing machine, or don't mind getting it fixed up at the end of the season because it did need repairs every season.

disappointing, 4/27/2011

kashmir's rider from Los Angeles, Ca

My horse wore this for a few hours, when he rolled in it, the clip broke, and he was walking on the thing and ripping the heck out of it when I checked on him. Very disappointing, as my Saxon brand fly sheet (without clips) lasted 2 summers. $55 or so down the drain!

Don't order this sheet in a smaller size. It's true to size!!!! I ordered 2 inches smaller and it FIT 2 inches too small. I had to pay 11 dollars to return it and now my horse is without a fly sheet! I have a 15.3 QH who has an average build.

Not the best flysheet, 11/28/2010

Sara from NY

This flysheet is not durable at all and is not suitable for all horses' body types. The 'flowing mesh' rips easily and the belly band does not hold the sheet in place. My horse is a stocky and wide quarter horse and the blanket kept slipping off to one side. the only good thing was it did not make her sweat. but overall not a good choice for larger stockier horses.

Safety Issue!, 9/30/2010

Jill from

These sheets run 4-6" too large and are slick with only one belly band resulting in them sliding daily regardless of conformation. Please be VERY wary with them. My show horse was wearing one last Spring when it rolled under him and he got his leg stuck in it. The synthetic material bunched and wrapped in to a cord-like mass and he was unable to easily free his leg. Six months later and $1500 in vet bills and I still can't ride my horse from the damage caused by using this product.

Kool Coat, 8/3/2010

Judy from

I usually love these KoolCoats, however the strap connections are in the wrong place. This was the first place for the blanket to tear ..these connections are on the side where the horse rolls and they immediately put a hole in the netting fabric. I suggest you make the connections where the fabric is stronger and not in the netting material.

Pleased in the desert!, 7/23/2010

Kenzie M. from

First of all, I want to point out that this material is great for keeping horses cool during these 115 degree summers. Leave it off, and I have a horse COVERED in salt. I have a very dark bay reiner, and the sun just beats on his coat, leaving it bleached and standing at end. Not only does this sheet keep him cool and sleek, his tail stays long because he's not swatting at flies all day. I just purchased a second because the first was a little big (I overshot in my guessing game) and he ripped it rolling. Only complaint is that it slips to the side almost immediately after putting it on. I can live with that, though, because of all the other things I love about this fly sheet.

Good sheet!, 7/13/2010

Jessica from

I just purchased this fly sheet and Im pretty happy with it. I think the size is very true! However if you have a wide shoulder horse I would recommend going up a size as the sheet is a little snug in the shoulder. The qulaity is great, wish it was a little lighter weight. It is made of 2 materials and the thicker (plaid part) of it is kind of thick for hot weather. I live in WI and wouldnt recommend the sheet when it gets up in the 80's... maybe mid 80's but no hotter than that! But again anything on a horse when it's that warm will make them sweat! Overall im pretty happy with it!

Neutral, 7/8/2010

Kryss from

This blanket did a great job of keeping the bugs off my QH....for the week that it lasted. He constantly rolls and I came out to find the blanket shredded in two spots hanging around his neck. I paid 85$ for it at the time, so you can imagine my disappointment. The straps were all very durable, but the fabric is what gave in the end. I would recommend it for a horse that isn't rough on blankets. Bugs didn't stand a chance with it while it was intact.

My mare loves it and so do I, 6/28/2010

Dottie Lundstedt from

Dance has gotten so used to wearing this fly/suncreen protection that if I don't put it on her she stands at the barn door until I do put it on. I can see she is more protected from flies, but there are some persistant ones that can bite through the mesh and the solid material. I see the blood specks. But think how bad it would be with nothing. The design is great. I love the way the mesh waves in the wind keeping the flies at bay. The neck is loose and which moves with her movement and keeps flies off her. She is a 50% white paint and this is keeping her from sunburning. Last year she burned so bad her skin peeled. The sheet does moves backwards so I tried tightening the surcingle and buckling at the girth area. That helps but when she lowers her neck to graze, it get pretty tight at the withers and the bottom of her neck. All in all, I love it...

Terry from

For the first time in five years my two warmbloods haven't had to be on meds for their fly allergies. The sheets keep them cool and fly free even in 90* temperatures. I like the fact that these sheets fit big....they don't restrict movement or rub. The only place they have welts is the small space between back of their ears and the neck area that is exposed. Wish they made a fly mask that would overlap this area.

Great durability! No prolbems yet. Even with other horses in the pature. The fly protection is great, too. Would definitely recommend!

Too Hot, 6/14/2010

Michele from

Sheet is very well made. Sheet runs big and likes to move back. Also doesn't provide any belly protection. For my mare, sheet was too hot. We are already up to 96+ degrees (105+ with the heat index, and our humidity is very high). I would still recommend sheet for cooler states and order smaller than normal.

HAPPY HORSES!, 6/9/2010

Nancy from

The sheet is wonderful. The neck wanted to slide down a little so I used the buckle on it to attach it to a fly mask and it worked great. It seems to run rather large in my opinion. The material seems extremely durable and of excellent quality. I hope it is cool enough for the hotter months because it is the best fly protection I have ever used to date. I bought the standard sheet as well and the best part is the shoulder lining that allows free movement. They wash very well too!

good sheet for the price, 6/2/2010

Sparkly Reiner 87 from

The only problem i have with the sheet is that it shifts sideways very easily. I will fix it and 10 minutes later it will move, so I wish it had 2 belly straps, or some how the belly strap went around the front legs because it tends to shift backwards too. However, it fits very true to size, and my mare is comfortable in the summer heat of 80 degrees. There also hasn't been a fly bite on her since I put it on her. She had horrible welts, and now is very comfortable. Upstate NY has HORRIBLE flies so I'm very impressed how my horse doesn't even have one bite. I also like the neck cover, it works really well and doesn't ride back too much. it gets dirty really easily but i just rinse it off with the hose everyday when i take it off her to ride. she rolls and plays and it hasn't torn yet. overall its a good investment for the price, like I said, I wish it wouldn't shift so much.

This is a great summer sheet!, 5/30/2010

C King from

We had a really wet winter here and as a result, the flys and mosquitos have been terrible. I wanted something for insect and sun protection. I bought 5 of these sheets, one for each of my horses. So far, I am loving them. I cannot believe how cool the horse's stay under them and they protect from the insects well. I have two horses who tear everything up I put on them. So far, so good, these are made pretty well. The only problem I have is I have to get my 3 yr. old filly used to seeing the other horses in them, she thinks the alien horses have landed and are out to get her!

Definitely NOT Cool! , 5/13/2010

Maria from

I purchased this sheet for my pony who has fly allergies. Within 10 minutes of wearing it she was hot, within 2 hours she was sweating profusely! This is only May in Florida and we are only in the upper 80 degrees and it definitely didn't do what it was supposed to do! I even tried putting it on here just for overnight to protect from mosquitoes and she still became overheated. This is a 26 year old mare who spends her days WALKING and grazing. I'm so disappointed in this sheet. If you are in Florida, look for another sheet, this one is too hot for our weather! I actually read the reviews on this website before deciding to purchase this sheet. I wish someone from Florida had posted because I pretty much wasted my hard earned dollars on something that will now sit in the tack roomm.

My Mare wont go out with out her Kool sheet on., 5/1/2010

Mary Adamchik from

Last year I put my Bay Mare in a mesh fly sheet and the result was not what I wanted. She would come in from pasture sweaty and sticky which the fly’s loved. By the end of May her coat was sun bleached. Her main and tail had burnt red high lights. This season I didn’t want the same results so I bought the Kool Coat Airstream Combo Fly sheet. I have had it on her for 7 weeks now with the heat of the day reaching over 80’s she has come in every day dry. And her coat is a rich black color. At the last show everyone keep asking me what did I do to get her rich coat, I owe it all to the Kool Coat Airstream. Funny story last week I put her out without putting on her sheet. Well she was upset. She stood by the back door and nickered to me. I went to leave the barn and she ran to where she could see me and was whinnying. So I went back in to the barn and let her in she walked over to her sheet and stood there. I put in on her and she walked back out to pasture and I didn’t see her till dinner.

Oustanding fly / UV sheet, 6/3/2009

Dawn from Hurricane Alley, LA

I've spent hundreds of dollars on UV/Fly sheets for our cutting horses. None compare to this one. We're in an extremely hot and humid climate, yet the horses remain comfortable turned out with these sheets on even now, in JUNE!It's simply amazing. Although they would prefer to be naked, which isn't an option for the show horses, this sheet is the most widely accepted of all. The craftsmanship is great, and they have thought of most everything needed in a horse sheet. I couldn't be happier, ordering more as we speak!

Not tough enough, 9/6/2008

Jennifer from Paxton, MA

Our horse has a nasty scar that has to be protected from sunburn, so I thought this sheet with its excellent UV protection would be perfect, and the price was very reasonable. The sheet worked great for a month or so then he came in from the paddock one day and the sheet was in shreds. Its just not tough enough for turnout on a horse who rolls, and who plays around with his paddockmates.

This is the best fly sheet ever invented. Plenty roomy in my horses normal size, quality seams, fasteners, velcro, leg straps, surcingle. I never expected such a beautiful piece of workmanship to also be effective, functional and tolerated well by my horse. AWESOME.. only problem was our little pony had to get accustomed to seeing this strange white ghost in pasture!
